Ultimate role-playing and dueling weapon? According to a buddy of mine: A laser katana that shoots katanas that are also laser katanas. Can't argue with that, unless of course it's a rocket propelled chainsaw.
I got lazy towards the end of my illustrious dueling career, and fancied using an energy orb that could take the form of any type of bladed weapon. Think of a lighsaber, only it's on crack (a lightHALBRED, or a lightAXE, or a lightGREATSWORD, or what have you).
